UBC Journal of Philosophical Enquiries
Paper Submission Requirements
We are now accepting essay submissions for the 2024-2025 edition of the journal. Please send up to two essays per student to ubcjpe@gmail.com while carefully following the guidelines below. Remember to use Word (.doc/.docx) and remove any personal identifiers in the original document. The deadline to submit is December 12, 2024.
*Note that students who wish to submit work will be expected to invest a few hours every week into the editorial process during critical periods (March to June).
Guidelines
- Submitted papers should engage with a particular thinker, idea or problem in a well-informed and original manner. There are no restrictions as to what kind of paper it may be (analytical, comparative, interpretive, dialectical etc.) however it should advance a clear thesis supported by strong evidence and logical argumentation. If your work has been submitted for a class it should be of an A standing (>84%).
- Papers should be philosophical in nature, although this does not necessarily mean that they have to have been written for a philosophy course. Please contact us if you have questions.
- Length: 7-20 pages (double-spaced). Papers that exceed this limit by 5 pages or so will still be considered but they will be at a disadvantage in the selection process. Should such papers be accepted, the author may be expected to edit their work to meet the 20 page requirement.
- Citation Style: Chicago 17th Edition (footnote). We will accept papers using other citation styles but you will be expected to alter your work to Chicago if it is chosen for publication.
- You may send us a maximum of two papers. However, only one of the two can be published. In cases where both documents are accepted the choice of which one to publish will be left to the author.
- *The submission must be in .doc/.docx format.*
- Papers submitted must remove any features which could be used to identify the author such as names and student numbers. ANY PAPER SUBMITTED THAT INCLUDES THE NAME OF THE AUTHOR MAY BE DISQUALIFIED.
- The work must not be already published in another journal.
Please submit all applications or further questions to ubcjpe@gmail.com.
