Applications for the editor and graphic designer positions for the 2023-2024 edition are now closed. For those considering applying for the following year, please see the role descriptions and application requirements below.

Editor:

As an editor, you will be working closely with authors of successful essay submissions to revise their work and turn it into a publishable form.

 

Time commitment: during critical editorial periods (mostly between January and April 2023), editors will be expected to put in a couple hours a week in reviewing or editing submissions. In addition, team members will be expected to attend meetings and training sessions throughout the year, once every month or so. Term 1 of the academic year will be spent mainly on training, organization and bonding events. Term 2 will be spent on selection, editing and publication of submissions.

Application Requirements: Please send one academic writing sample and one statement of interest to ubcjpe@gmail.com. The writing sample can be a paper written for university courses or an excerpt from thesis work. However, it must be at least 5 pages double spaced, preferably engaging with other academic sources. In the statement of interest of around 250-600 words, please indicate why you would like to be part of the journal, what you hope to get out of it, and any experience you may have that is relevant to this role.

Graphic Designer:

As a designer, you will be involved with formatting, compiling, and embellishing the final version of the journal. Tasks include overseeing the cover design, page layout, typeface, graphics etc. Knowledge of LaTex. Adobe Publisher, or any other publishing software will be greatly appreciated though not required.

 

Time Commitment: Most of the work will happen near the end of and following the editorial process (2-3 hours a week in late April - June). In addition, designers will be expected to attend important meetings (at least once a semester) in order to be on the same page with the rest of the team.
